The Open Group is a worldwide collaborative of end user organizations and I.T. product and service providers that promotes standards to facilitate achieving benefits and ease of interoperability within and between organisations. Following early work funded by the US Government, a series of standards was evolved, with significant input from many industry contributors ultimately resulting in The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) – now at release 9.
The course covers the body of knowledge required for TOGAF 9 certification. Successful candidates, after examination, will be registered via the Open Group as certified TOGAF 9 Architects, becoming part of a select international community. Advantages of this course include:
TOGAF comprises a number of components, including: a comprehensive Architecture Development Method (ADM); A Standards Information Base; a number of Reference Models and the concept of managing the Enterprise Continuum – a repository of useful architectural building blocks and solutions. TOGAF 9 has extended the coverage of TOGAF into the business space, added a meta model, introduced a Content Framework and better defined deliverables and skill requirements. TOGAF has gained ground rapidly and is now the most widely accepted method for doing EA based upon recognised standards. The Open Group manages the evolution of TOGAF and certifies practitioners, training courses and tools.
This course is offered by Purple Griffon in partnership with PROMIS and is delivered by TOGAF certified consultants and instructors. The Practical TOGAF 9 course is certified by the Open Group.
The course covers both TOGAF 8 and TOGAF 9 content. It is a certified TOGAF 8 course, which means that delegates who attend and perform to the required level on the course can be immediately certified as TOGAF 8 architects with the Open Group. The course also prepares students to take the TOGAF 9 certification examinations via Prometric online testing centers.
Typical candidates would include those already working in the EA discipline and wanting to achieve an internationally recognised qualification. Others would be currently working in a senior I.T. or business analysis capacity and wanting to move into an EA role. Those who have had previous exposure to management (including program, project and portfolio management) and to modelling techniques (as used in business, information and systems analysis) will typically be at an advantage. I.T. managers and CIO's who need to initiate or manage an EA function will also benefit tremendously. Finally, consultants in outsourcing, ERP implementation and technology infrastructure advisory roles will also benefit.

For organizations, the Open CA program provides an independent, global, experience-based benchmark for identifying, assessing and selecting the most qualified individuals for critical roles and responsibilities. Specifying Open CA-certified individuals in procurement and project proposals can considerably reduce recruitment time and cost, and result in higher project success rates.
Open CA can help to optimise the staff recruitment and retention process, and motivate staff to acquire this widely recognised industry standard to authenticate their skills and experience. Organisations can also utilise The Open Group materials to build their own professional certification programs, and apply the Open CA program structure to enhance their own learning and development programs
For individuals, The Open Group Certified Architect (Open CA) certification represents an ideal mechanism for demonstrating knowledge, success and overall business capabilities. The Open CA program can significantly enhance and affirm your professional skills, improve your prospects for rewarding assignments, accelerate salary and career advancement, and result in greater peer recognition.
Successful candidates can come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. We do not exclude any delegate who is strongly motivated to do the course, so there are no strict prerequisites. We do not recommend the course for junior personnel. You should have at least 5 years working experience or University level qualifications and have had exposure to I.T. and business. Candidates should already have, or be motivated to move into, a role which requires enterprise level architectural thinking and responsibility.
The core course content is covered during the full day sessions. There may be preparatory reading or overnight review required. This should not exceed one hour on any given day. The daily sessions are intensive and delegates are expected to attend full time.
Assessment is by observation of individual and group work output. To complete registration, following the successful completion of instruction (as above), candidates must sit and pass an independent online examination administered by Prometric on behalf of the Open Group (exam costs are included in the course price). This is scheduled by the candidate ant a date and time of their choice. The exam is the combined TOGAF 9 Part 1 and 2 exam. Part 1 is closed book and covers the essential body of knowledge required to achieve TOGAF foundation registration. Part 2 is open book (an online reference is provided) and entails the application of the knowledge in case study type scenario questions. The answers to both sections are multiple choice, but the Part 2 questions require a knowledge beyond the facts.
Passing Part 1 and 2 is required for registration as a Certified TOGAF 9 Architect.
